Icelandic brother duo VÆB blend energetic electronic pop and hip-hop, earning international attention after representing Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest with “RÓA”.
VÆB (pronounced “Vibe”) is the Icelandic duo of brothers Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson and Matthías Davíð Matthíasson. Raised in a deeply musical family, the pair began performing from a young age, with Hálfdán learning drums and Matthías taking up trumpet. Their love of music and performance eventually led them to form VÆB in 2022 after a light-hearted song posted on TikTok gained unexpected popularity and inspired them to start releasing music professionally.
Known for their upbeat blend of electronic pop, hip-hop and playful songwriting, VÆB quickly built a growing audience in Iceland. Their breakthrough came with “Bíómynd”, which introduced them to a national audience through Söngvakeppnin, Iceland’s Eurovision selection contest. They returned the following year with “RÓA”, a feel-good anthem about perseverance that won Söngvakeppnin and went on to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest. With infectious energy, strong family roots and a talent for crafting memorable songs, VÆB have become one of the most recognisable young acts in Icelandic music.
