Kristian Matsson has performed as The Tallest Man on Earth since 2006, when the Swedish singer-songwriter stepped out from indie band Montezumas with a self-titled debut EP. Raised in Leksand, in the folk heartland of Dalarna, he built his reputation on spare, poetic songs and a craggy, passionate voice that has often drawn comparisons to Bob Dylan. His debut album Shallow Grave (2008) made him a critical favourite, and a run of acclaimed records followed, including The Wild Hunt (2010), There's No Leaving Now (2012), Dark Bird Is Home (2015) and Henry St. (2023).
Early support slots for Bon Iver helped introduce him to audiences around the world, and he has since become a fixture on the international touring circuit, with regular UK shows in cities such as London, Bristol and Glasgow. On stage he is a force of nature — restless, warm and utterly magnetic — whether playing solo with a guitar and banjo or leading a full band. Rooted in American folk and blues yet unmistakably his own, The Tallest Man on Earth remains one of contemporary folk's most compelling live performers.
