The South is a dynamic nine-piece band featuring former members of the iconic British pop group The Beautiful South, including vocalists Alison Wheeler and saxophonist Gaz Birtles. Since their formation in 2017, The South has captivated audiences with their renditions of classic hits like “A Little Time”, “Perfect 10”, and “Rotterdam”, as well as their own original material. Their energetic performances have graced major UK festivals such as Glastonbury and Boomtown, and they've shared stages with renowned acts like Hot 8 Brass Band.
In 2021, The South released their debut album, Sweet Refrains, showcasing their unique blend of pop, soul, and jazz influences. The album received critical acclaim for its rich arrangements and heartfelt lyrics. Following the departure of original member Dave Hemingway in 2016, Gaz Birtles transitioned to lead vocals alongside Alison Wheeler, with trumpet player Gareth John also contributing to the vocal duties. This lineup continues to deliver the timeless sound of The Beautiful South to new generations of fans.
