Momsen had found fame by starring in the teen drama Gossip Girl before the formation of the band. Looking to expand her artist talents, she approached several music producers in 2009 and was drawn towards Kato Khandwala because she favoured his rock sound. Khandwala assembled a band initially under the title The Reckless. After numerous line-up changes and a copyright issue, they settled on the now familiar name of The Pretty Reckless.

A year later they released debut album Light Me Up to rave reviews. The record contained the singles Miss Nothing, Just Tonight and the band’s signature song Make Me Wanna Die. Second album Going To Hell came out in 2014 saw greater commercial success, entering the UK album charts at #8. Their new release Who You Selling For is expected to be an even greater critical and commercial success.
