A rising UK soul-pop star whose extraordinary voice and modern take on classic soul have marked him out as one of Britain's most exciting new artists.
Sekou is one of the UK's most exciting new voices, blending soul, pop, gospel and R&B influences into a sound that showcases his remarkable vocal talent and heartfelt songwriting.
Born and raised in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, Sekou discovered his love of music through church, where his powerful voice first began to turn heads. After moving to London to study at East London Arts & Music (ELAM), he quickly built a growing online audience through a series of viral cover performances, eventually earning a record deal and opportunities to perform at major events, including Glastonbury's BBC Music Introducing stage. His breakthrough momentum continued with acclaimed original releases, appearances on Later... with Jools Holland, support slots with artists including John Legend and Reneé Rapp, and recognition from both the BRIT Awards' Rising Star shortlist and the BBC Sound Of poll.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Whitney Houston, Prince, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross and Amy Winehouse, Sekou combines classic soul influences with a fresh contemporary perspective. His forthcoming mixtape, In A World We Don't Belong, marks a bold new chapter, exploring themes of identity, belonging and self-expression through vibrant production, rich brass arrangements and undeniable pop sensibilities. With a distinctive voice, magnetic stage presence and growing international profile, Sekou is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most compelling young artists to emerge from the UK in recent years.
