Pigeon are a five-piece Afro-disco and punk-funk group, formed in Margate after an impromptu post-pub jam session, and named after vocalist Falle Nioke's beloved childhood pet.
The group draw on the diverse creative and sonic influences of their members. Vocalist and percussionist Nioke is from Guinea, and sings in a multitude of languages, such as English, French, Susu and Fulani. Drummer Graham Godfrey has worked with rap sensation Little Simz and RnB soul star Michael Kiwanuka, whilst Pigeon's man on the keys and synths, Steve Pringle, was also a member of Kiwanuka's touring band. Guitarist Tom Dream is a film director who spearheaded the formation of Pigeon, and bassist Josh Ludlow is a DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist.
Together, Pigeon sound merges traditional West African griot musicality with Western indie, funk, and krautrock. Their dynamic, danceable style was solidified on their debut album, OUTTANATIONAL which explores themes of identity, migration, and belonging.
