Pan Amsterdam is the avant-garde hip-hop persona of Leron Thomas, a New York-based musician known for blending jazz, hip-hop, and experimental sounds. Originally a jazz trumpeter, Thomas reinvented himself as Pan Amsterdam, merging his instrumental expertise with deadpan lyricism, abstract storytelling, and offbeat beats. His debut album, The Pocket Watch (2018), introduced a fresh and unconventional sound, earning him recognition for his genre-defying approach and collaborations with artists like Iggy Pop.
Since then, Pan Amsterdam has continued to push boundaries, working with British indie royalty Metronomy on the track "Nice Town" and releasing albums such as Ha Chu (2020) and EAT (2021) alongside Damu the Fudgemunk. His music fuses witty, surrealist rap with jazz-infused beats, drawing comparisons to MF DOOM and Gil Scott-Heron. With his distinctive voice, unpredictable flow, and love for left-field production, Pan Amsterdam remains a compelling and innovative figure in modern hip-hop.
