Scottish anarcho-punk band dedicated to radical music, Gaelic expression and principled resistance.
Oi Polloi sprang from Edinburgh in 1981, driven by punk’s urgency and a fierce political intelligence. Originally rooted in Oi! and working-class street punk, they evolved into champions of anarcho-punk and DIY activism, unafraid to speak against racism, sexism, colonialism and capitalism. Over time, they’ve also embraced Scottish Gaelic in their music and daily life, believing that language and culture are vital elements of resistance.
Their catalogue includes seminal works like Unite and Win! (1987), which called for solidarity between punks and anti-fascist skins, and later releases such as Ar Ceòl Ar Cànan Ar-A-Mach (in Gaelic) that stand as testaments to their evolving commitment to both sonic ferocity and cultural integrity. Across decades and dozens of line-ups, the one constant has been vocalist Deek Allen, whose presence anchors the band’s message of uncompromising activism and energy. Live, Oi Polloi ignite audiences with raw, intense performances that merge punk’s edge with a sense of purpose — not nostalgia, but urgency.
