About Mouth Ulcers

Mouth Ulcers began in London in 2025 as a spontaneous studio experiment, sparked when vocalist and guitarist Zak Watson stumbled back across a folder of old riffs. Josephine Rose (guitar/vocals), Jamie-Lee Culver (bass) and David Zbirka (drums) soon joined him, and the project became a proper band. Their sound takes Joy Division's starkness, The Cure's moody romance and the jagged edge of Bauhaus, then wraps it all around melodic basslines, wiry guitars and Watson's deep baritone. The band's own description, "music for vampires to dance to", sums it up nicely.

Early singles "Western Horror Story" and "A Perfect End" set the tone, before the band signed to LAB Records and shared "Prevail", a brooding track inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky's film Stalker. Debut EP Silent Pictures (2026) followed, as did "Lady Rust", a gothic tale of an ancient vampire guarding a crumbling manor house. Along the way they've earned airplay on BBC 6 Music, KEXP and Radio X, plus praise from The Line Of Best Fit and Louder Than War. Live, they sold out their very first shows in the UK and the Netherlands, and have since brought their shadowy sets to festivals including Dot To Dot.
