MONO is a Japanese instrumental rock band formed in 1999 in Tokyo. Known for their expansive soundscapes, emotive compositions, and cinematic style, MONO has earned critical acclaim worldwide for their powerful and atmospheric performances. The band's lineup consists of Takaakira "Taka" Goto (guitar, glockenspiel), Hideki "Yoda" Suematsu (guitar, glockenspiel), Dahm Majuri Cipolla (drums), and Tamaki Kunishi (bass, guitar, piano, glockenspiel).
MONO has released a number of studio albums, with key works including Under the Pipal Tree (2001), You Are There (2006), and Requiem for Hell (2016). Their music blends post-rock, classical, and shoegaze influences, creating compositions that often build to intense, orchestral climaxes. The band has toured extensively across Asia, Europe, and America, performing in renowned venues and festivals. In addition to their regular albums, MONO has released several EPs and an annual Christmas EP series, with the most recent instalment being Heaven Vol. 3 in 2024.
