A visionary Spanish singer-songwriter melding flamenco heritage with electronic, R&B and avant-garde influences into deeply poetic and healing music.
María José Llergo is a Spanish singer-songwriter whose music seamlessly bridges traditional flamenco and modern electronic influences. Raised amidst the rural landscapes of southern Spain, she studied violin and flamenco vocals before continuing her training at the Catalonia School of Music in Barcelona. Her deeply emotive debut EP Sanación (2020) explores themes of healing, identity and resistance, while her full-length Ultrabelleza (2023) blends R&B, soul and experimental beats with her flamenco roots to striking effect.
Celebrated for her soulful voice and poetic lyricism, María José Llergo has earned acclaim both in Spain and beyond. She won a Goya Award for Best Original Song for “Te Espera el Mar” (for the film Mediterráneo) and has appeared at international platforms such as NPR’s Tiny Desk. With vocal improvisation rooted in Romani tradition and a forward-thinking artistry, she stands as one of modern flamenco’s most visionary voices.
