Johnny Hates Jazz is a British pop band that rose to prominence in the late 1980s, known for their sophisticated mix of smooth pop, jazz, and new wave influences. Formed in 1986 by singer Clark Datchler, bassist Mike Nocito, and drummer Paul Jackson, the band gained instant recognition with their debut album Turn Back the Clock (1988). The album's breakout single, “Shattered Dreams,” became a global hit, reaching the top of the charts in several countries and solidifying the band's place in pop history.
With their polished production and catchy hooks, Johnny Hates Jazz became known for their ability to blend heartfelt ballads with infectious pop tunes. Despite several line-up changes and a hiatus, the band has continued to tour and release new material, including Wide Awake (2013), maintaining their loyal fanbase. Their legacy endures with timeless tracks like “I Don’t Want to Be a Hero” and “Heart of Gold,” and their distinctive sound remains a defining influence in 80s pop music.
