Emerging in the early 2000s from members of the UK hardcore scene, the group quickly distinguished themselves with a sound that balanced sheer heaviness with cinematic atmosphere and expansive, slowly unfolding song structures.
Across their releases, including A God Amongst Insects (2003), II (2007), Darker Later (2010), and Awesome Science (2013), Humanfly shifted from abrasive, riff-driven sludge toward increasingly textured, instrumental, and progressive territories. Their later work embraced long-form composition, psychedelic edge, and soaring melodic passages while never releasing their grip on crushing low-end power.
