Montreal singer-songwriter Helena Deland writes intimate, literary indie folk, and has opened for artists including Weyes Blood, Andy Shauf and Iggy Pop.
Montreal singer-songwriter Helena Deland is drawn to the feelings that everyday language can't quite reach. After a run of early EPs, she released her full-length debut, Someone New (2020), a dense, electronic-tinged record that earned her wide praise. She followed it with Goodnight Summerland (2023), a warmer, more folk-leaning set co-produced with Sam Evian and shaped by grief and memory. Alongside her solo work, she has released two albums as Hildegard with fellow Montreal musician Ouri: Hildegard (2021) and Jour 1596 (2024).
On her third solo album, Eternity Shrugs, Deland shares production duties with longtime bandmates Francis Ledoux and Alexandre Larin. The record surrounds her voice and guitar with piano, organ, viola and woodwinds, in patient arrangements that move between spare and quietly ornate. Live, she has toured across North America and Europe and has opened for Weyes Blood, Andy Shauf, Connan Mockasin, Soccer Mommy and Iggy Pop. Expect a close, absorbing evening with a songwriter who rewards careful listening.
