GENN are an all-female four-piece from Brighton whose sound merges post-punk edge with art-rock flair and rhythmic, Mediterranean-tinged grooves. The line-up features Janelle Borg (guitar), Sofia Rosa Cooper (drums), Leona Farrugia (vocals) and Leanne Zammit (bass) — four musicians whose chemistry has helped craft a distinctive sound that’s as danceable as it is defiant. Originally hailing from Malta before relocating to the UK, GENN bring a fierce DIY energy and a deep sense of identity to their music, weaving bold melodies and propulsive rhythms with themes of individuality, empowerment and transformation.
Tracks such as “A Reprise (That Girl)”, “Duda Dance”, “Days and Nights”, “Calypso” and “Mackerel’s Funk Mission” showcase the band’s knack for fusing infectious basslines and percussive drive with rich, emotive vocals.
