Declan McKenna is the indie-rock songwriter behind the viral protest anthem "Brazil".
Declan McKenna first turned heads as a teenager, self-releasing the single "Brazil" (2015) — a razor-sharp protest song aimed at FIFA and the 2014 World Cup that won him Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition and marked him out as one of the UK's most exciting new voices. Trading in infectious indie-rock hooks and shimmering, dream-pop textures, the Hertfordshire songwriter has never shied away from writing about the world around him.
He has since built a rich, three-album catalogue. His debut What Do You Think About the Car? (2017) reached the UK top 20, before the ambitious, glam-tinged Zeros (2020) climbed all the way to number two. Third record What Happened to the Beach? (2024) saw him embrace looser, sun-soaked experimentation. A magnetic live performer, McKenna has lit up festivals including Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, Coachella and Lollapalooza, earning a reputation for joyous, high-energy shows that turn his songs into full-blooded singalongs.
