D:Ream emerged in the early 1990s from Manchester (with strong ties to Northern Ireland), spearheaded by vocalist‐songwriter Peter Cunnah and producer/DJ Al Mackenzie. Their sound masterfully fused house, pop and soul elements into anthemic dance-pop—most notably culminating in the chart-topping hit “Things Can Only Get Better” in 1994. That track, alongside others like “U R the Best Thing”, “Shoot Me with Your Love” and “Take Me Away”, helped them achieve several UK Top 40 hits and major visibility during the decade.
Across their early records—D:Ream on Volume 1 (1993) and World (1995)—the band crafted dance-floor anthems laden with uplifting gospel-style vocals, piano house motifs and soaring pop hooks. After a hiatus, the band reformed in 2008 and have since embraced a more reflective stance, releasing In Memory Of… (2011) and Open Hearts Open Minds (2021), showing that their core spirit of optimism, energy and connection remains intact.
