Kingston-born vocalist Michael Mendez and a full live band celebrate John Holt, the reggae great behind "The Tide Is High" and "Help Me Make It Through The Night".
Few voices capture the warmth of Jamaican music quite like John Holt's. He first made his name as lead singer of rocksteady vocal group The Paragons, writing and singing "The Tide Is High" long before Blondie turned it into a worldwide hit, alongside favourites such as "Ali Baba". Going solo, he brought his smooth, unhurried style to originals like "Stick By Me" and to lush reggae takes on pop standards. 1000 Volts of Holt (1973) gave him a UK top ten hit with his version of Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through The Night", introducing his sound to a whole new audience.
This tribute brings those songs back to life with a full live band, led by Michael Mendez. Born in Kingston, Michael has spent more than 30 years in music, including singing backing vocals for reggae legends such as Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Luciano and Sizzla, before settling in the UK. Expect a feel-good night of sunny grooves, timeless singalongs and heartfelt love songs, delivered by a singer with roots deep in the music.
