The Texas-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter whose warm, nostalgic folk and Americana has carried him from Austin City Limits to Pitchfork Festival London.
Alex Amen is a Texas-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter whose warm take on folk, Americana and country sounds both timeless and refreshingly new. His path into music was anything but conventional. He left Texas at 18 to study filmmaking, dropped out after a single semester, and spent time on the historic Dittman Family Commune before retreating to Washington's Vashon Island for three years of relative isolation, filling his days with mycology, mountaineering, poetry and wooden boat building. That restless, wandering spirit runs right through his songwriting.
Returning to California, he self-produced his debut EP, The Zorthian Tapes (2025), in a self-built studio at Altadena's Zorthian Ranch, before signing to ATO Records for his debut album, Sun of Amen (2026). Songs such as "California Blues" and "Diamonds" showcase a rich, analogue-leaning sound that nods to the 1970s folk tradition. He has become a genuine live draw too, playing Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival and Outside Lands, touring in support of Folk Bitch Trio, and bringing his music to UK audiences at Pitchfork Festival London.
