Highs and lows
I love the Moth podcast and have been once before to a main stage event, but this time, the experience was a little disappointing. I know the Moth was started in America, but at a UK event, why were three of the speakers American. Surely we can find three people in the whole of the UK who tell good stories. Also, the stories really could have been reordered so the better ones were at the end. However, the thing that let the night down most was the young child in the auditorium who was not asked to leave and made noises throughout the show. It was completely off putting and inappropriate. As a mum of a 2 year old, I made complex childcare arrangements so I could attend the show, relax and focus on amazing life stories. So I was particularly annoyed to have to listen to someone else's child distract everyone from the show. When I asked an usher, why the child wasn't removed, they said the parent refused to go. Union Chapel, you should have been the parent in this instance, and set the boundaries about what's acceptable. But it is lovely to go to Union Chapel. It's such a special venue, the staff are lovely and the programming is so diverse and interesting. So definitely a night of highs and lows.
