Slavoj Žižek’s Cultural Orgy
Slavoj Žižek is one of the rare philosophers who treats cinema, music and popular culture as seriously as he treats Hegel. Equally at home discussing Hitchcock, philosophy or the latest Hollywood blockbuster, he has made a career of finding philosophical ideas in the cultural objects that surround us.
In this special 5x15 event, Žižek invites the audience into what he calls a cultural orgy: a fast-moving and digressive journey through the works that have inspired his thinking. With the help of film and television clips, stories and digressions, he will roam through the books, music and movies that have shaped his understanding of ideology, politics and the modern world. But beneath the exuberance lies a serious question. Why do certain images, stories and sounds grip us so powerfully, and what do they reveal about the strange desires, anxieties
and contradictions that run through modern society?
Join us for an evening of film, philosophy and cultural mischief with Slavoj Žižek.
