Curtis Salgado & Alan Hager Duo | Live at The Oast, Rainham
One of America's most celebrated blues voices comes to Kent for an intimate evening that strip blues back to its raw, honest core.
Curtis Salgado is a genuine giant of the form. A six-time Blues Music Award winner — including the coveted B.B. King Entertainer of the Year — NPR have called him simply "a blues icon" with a "huge voice." His career stretches back to co-leading The Robert Cray Band and a legendary encounter with John Belushi that directly inspired the creation of The Blues Brothers. He has shared stages with Muddy Waters, Albert Collins, Bobby Bland and Bonnie Raitt, fronted Roomful of Blues, and released ten solo albums — several on Alligator Records, the world's most celebrated blues label.
Beside him is guitarist Alan Hager — trained at Berklee under jazz legend Pat Metheny and later at the New England Conservatory — a player whose command of Delta blues, jazz and classical guitar is simply unlike anyone else in the business. Salgado calls him "the best player in the business, unlike anybody else."
Together as a duo, the pair recorded Rough Cut (Alligator Records, 2018) — thirteen songs captured in live, unrehearsed takes, ranging from plaintive to playful. It is the sound of two musicians who have been playing together since 2003, performing the music they love most — what Hager calls "American Classical music."
This is an evening of real blues. Voice, harmonica, and guitar. Nothing more needed.
